Off to college

After contemplating college for a couple of years, I will finally be starting classes at Mount Royal College, here in Calgary, in January. I'm pretty excited to finally be getting myself headed toward a higher education. Unfortunately, the U of C doesn't accept winter starts (that I can find anyway), so I've decided to take my first semester simply in General Arts & Sciences at MRC.

Currently, my chosen area of study next year will be at (most likely) the U of C, majoring in Civil Engineering while minoring in Transportation Engineering. Who knows though, as my mind has changed a few times recently, and I'm still considering a move to Vancouver to go to UBC. So we'll see what happens following this first semester.

I have yet to pick my classes, but I've been looking. I have to talk to an advisor and find out what classes will be transferable before I make any decisions and pay my tuition and start buying text books.

I will try my best to keep you posted on my new-found college life.

I Went to School

I paid my first visit as a student to Mount Royal yesterday morning. It was just a simple, boring workshop of some kind but nevertheless it has again piqued my interest in actually getting myself back into school.

I will finally pick my classes tomorrow, although I'm sure I already know what I'm going to take. I just have to be sure to pick classes that will transfer properly. I'm quite excited to actually start class, which apparently will happen on January 8, 2007 - a little over a month away. I never thought I would actually be looking forward to going to class. I'm sure this will all pass shortly after they've begun, but what the hell. It doesn't hurt to hold a little bit of anticipation.

College Day 0.5: Orientation

Yesterday I spent the majority of my day at Mount Royal College doing some relatively boring orientation, tours, picking up my student ID and a bunch of other crap. I could have probably done without the comprehensive tour and the opening speeches and whatnot, but I guess it wasn't all for the worst. I now know where to go when I need free condoms and lube.

Anyway, I'm just looking forward for class to start on Monday, although after a couple of weeks I'm sure I'll be singing a different tune.

Two down, two to go

When this week started there were three midterms staring me in the face in the latter part of the week. One each on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I wrote my Microeconomics midterm yesterday and believe I did remarkably better than I thought I would, same goes for my Macroeconomics exam today. Tomorrow I'll be writing History, which is going to simply be one essay... and we were told the topic, so it shouldn't be that tough. I'm pretty stoked for reading week, which like most of the country is next week.

In other news, I have a post up at Too Real about why you should switch to Gmail, go check it out.

Next Step: New Zealand?

Earlier this week, Chris and I applied to the University of Auckland in New Zealand. Neither of us have heard back in regards to our application status yet, but we should in the next couple of weeks.

I've been thinking hard about going overseas for school for quite some time, so hopefully everything will work out in our favor, and we'll be able to go. We've got a lot of work to do if we are actually going to go, in a very short period of time—semester starts in July of this year.

I'll keep you updated.

Me, the future journalist?

I got a rather thick envelope from school today—actually, I got three envelopes from them, but this one stood out. It contained a number of letters detailing my acceptance into the School of Journalism. So, next year I'll be starting out in Journalism, and I will become a journalist. At least that's what my current education path is looking like. Yay me!
