Anyone that talks to me on a semi-regular basis is more than likely aware that brother is now driving the Aveo, and has been for a while. Unfortunately, the vehicle is still registered to me, and he had somewhat of an accident. And, adding to the excitement, the payments for the vehicle are drawn from my father's bank account.
Apparently, the above causes a huge problem for the lady at SGI (who shall rename nameless) who decided to call me at 5:30. I have already dealt with SGI once this year and was very pleased with my adjuster and how thinks worked out in the end.
I foresee a far different outcome this time.
In my last outing with SGI I do not recall being asked whether or not I was in school or working at the time I purchased the vehicle. Imagine my surprise when I answer "no" to the question, only to be told it is necessary information and I have to know definitively whether or not I was a student or member of the workforce. I replied "no" to the question three more times before stating "I'm sorry, I have no idea what bearing this has on my car insurance. I do not remember my exact state as a citizen two plus years ago, I apologize. I am not receiving a student discount or anything, nor do I recall being asked if I was a student at the time I purchased my insurance. Are there any other personal questions you would like to throw my way?"
Apparently there were, and I won't get into them. Needless to say I was more than annoyed. Top that off with her being extremely rude to the point I had to hang up on her once, only to have her call back five minutes later, with notably more attitude. I put up with it and got off the phone in about ten minutes.
I'm not sure whether I should write a letter, or just call her superiors. What do you figure?

I vote call her superiors!
and then go to her superiors superiors!
then write a letter to your MLA!
i vote to call her superiors but that probably won't due a lot of good anyways. divulge her name and any other rude things she did on your blog and maybe someone she knows will read it. this province is a relatively small place and chances are someone she does know will come across it and see her for who she really is.
then write a letter to Pat Fiacco, he can do anything!!
Ross, I'm not too sure that I want to give out her personal information over this one phone call. Maybe she's just had an absurdly terrible day and caught me at the end of it.
And, I'm in the middle of a claim with her. However, if this behavior persists. Then shit may have to change.
Well.. I say write a letter to SGI complaining about your treatment.
Then I'd do my best to rid yourself of the car. Since you live in Calgary I'm thinking you have to do this anyway? And the sooner the better? I wouldn't want a car with my name on it being regularly driven by someone even if it was a relative or family member.
Todd,
As far as I know, legally, I don't have to switch the registration in my situation. I have a truck in Calgary, registered in Alberta. The Aveo resides in Saskatoon and I use it when I am in town, and don't take it back with me.
Believe me I'm not too happy about the prospect of having my brother drive this car, and I am trying to work something out. We want to keep the car in the family, as selling it is a losing proposition.
However, SGI won't let us just transfer the title to someone else. Plus there are still (quite a) few thousand dollars left on the GMAC loan. Since SGI will force me to sell the car to my sister/father for fair market value, GMAC will be notified (as since they have the loan, have a lien against the car) and I will have to give them the money. This then causes my dad to either pull out the X thousand dollars in cash, or for him or my sister to get a loan at X% interest, while we are paying 0% with GMAC. It's a complicated situation.
My brother, however, will never drive a vehicle with my name on it again.
Stephen, I was in a similar situation, and SGI fucked me over hard. Someone "hit and ran" my car, I did not witness it, someone else did I don't know who she just left me a note! while the car was in my mothers possession. Needless to say, I had to pay the cost of repair because I couldn't prove that i had not just "made up" the plate number..blah blah blah. And the woman I talked to was horrid and rude, I wrote a letter, made phone calls and bitched 'till kingdom freakin come and nothing was done.
Sorry for your SGI dealings. I've only had to make 2 claims, and one was a hit and run so I lost of course, paying my deductible of $200 [on a package].
Amber, sorry to hear you couldn't get it straightened out. You'd think the police or SGI would just look at the other vehicle for damage, and when/if they tried to make a claim, nail them for your loss.
