The English really, really like their booze

It looks like there is quite a storm brewing in London about the right to consume alcohol on public transport. Wait... What?

Seriously, in London you can drink booze on buses, trains and trams, and I'm assuming probably inside churches. I wonder how much of the disparity between North American views on alcohol and European views relate to North America being colonized by the puritanical type?

So, Canada's actually getting an iPhone now!

Way back in November (the 19th, to be exact) of last year, I wrote a short entry complaining about the lack of a legal iPhone in Canada, and it appears that the powers that be in Cupertino have took heed of my advice and finally set up a deal with Rogers.

Seriously though, I'm pretty excited about this. I've been waiting (not so) patiently since June of last year when the iPhone went on sale a few kilometres to the south to finally get my law-abiding hands on one, and it's finally (almost) here. Rogers is being mum on the actual projected release date, saying only that it will be later this year. I've heard grumblings about June, July and the fall, but it's unimportant really. The whole issue with the release date is probably an Apple dictation in keeping with the way they release products -- on sale the day they are announced.

Anyway, the fact that we are getting the iPhone around a year after it initially went on sale sucks. I mean, they've lost a little bit of their cache. Case in point: millions of people in the States have them. Upwards of a million or more people in Canada have the iPhone's bastard little brother the iPod Touch... I mean, the iPhone just isn't as cool as it would have been had it been released last year. Regardless though, I'm getting one. That's for sure.

Fresh Backyard Snow by dougblackport

This is not exactly what I was expecting to end off the week. The majority of the week was warm, T-shirt and shorts weather. Waking up to images like above this Saturday morning were not exactly what I would consider welcome. Hopefully this is the last we will see of old man winter this spring, but who knows around here?

Where have all the good people gone?

Late last year, I noted that I would try to blog more often. So much for that. I have been struck with the curse of intermittent internet access since I moved into my new apartment. Trouble is, I'm contemplating keeping it this way. I'm more productive in my creative life, and my personal life is, well, better. We'll see what happens. I do miss espousing rambling thoughts on this space though, so I might spend some more time at public internet access points scribbling via my keyboard. We'll see.

In other news, though, I've been spending a lot of time doing some creative writing. I might post up some of the short stories and other garbage I've been working on here soon, but I might not. Ahh, how wonderful it is to be blissfully indecisive.

Anyway, there's my post for the month. Toodles.

Finally went pro on Flickr

I've finally gotten 'round to upgrading my Flickr account to pro status. This means I'll be uploading all of my photos (or at least what I've still got on my computer) there over the next little while. A great lot of them will be available to the general public, however, more personal ones, or pictures that include people that might not appreciate being viewable by the entire internet-going public will be restricted to Friends & Family of mine. So, pretty much, my contacts list on Flickr.

So, if you'd like to get a look at a lot more pictures on my Flickr account, feel free to add me as a contact.

Welcome to Oh-Eight!

Welcome to 2008, the year of the Rat and the Potato. Sweetness. There is a lot of good things to look forward to this year. The Beijing Olympics in August should be, well, interesting at least. The United States will finally rid themselves of the Bush and Cheney ludicrous rule. And well, there will be a lot more.

So, Happy New Year. Hope all of your plans come to fruition in spectacular fashion.

To Twitter, or not? December 26, 2007
I first tried Twitter on March 5, 2007, and never really got into it. I just didn't really see the point. However, as a concept "micro blogging" has always intrigued me. However, no-one I know personally actually uses the services,...

New Email Address December 12, 2007
I've noticed that I haven't checked the email address listed on my contact page in, well, months. And there's a good reason too... it gets upwards of 30 - 50 spam a day. Which sucks. Anyway, if for any reason...

The Patriots just walked all over the Steelers to go 13 - 0. But, do they have what it takes to go 16 - 0 and be the first undefeated team since the 72 Dolphins? In 2005, the Colts started off...

That would explain why it's so popular in the prairies, now wouldn't it? The entire article is worth a read, but here is the best part, from the Guardian: Before we begin today, let me ask a quick question:...
